The Westside is marked by the peaks of dormant volcanoes and the treasures of Petroglyph National Monument, where visitors can walk for miles among ancient volcanic rock etchings. 
The historic and natural geologic highlight of the Albuquerque's Westside is the Petroglyph National Monument. The Petroglyph National Monument is managed jointly by the City of Albuquerque and the National Park Service. It occupies 7,244 acres of Albuquerque Real Estate on the west mesa. Great day hike trails lead to some of the nearly 20,000 petroglyphs in the area. Boca Negra Horseman's Complex is located near Petroglyph National Monument on the Westside as well and is and excellent facility managed by the City of Albuquerque’s open space program. The Westside landscape includes the five dormant volcanic cones that helped to
create Albuquerque's unique rift valley and a seventeen-mile black basalt escarpment that is part of the National Monument, and highlight the varied and interesting geology of the Albuquerque area.
Other points of interest include Desert Greens Golf Course, Ladera Golf Course, Albuquerque Shooting Range Park, Double Eagle general aviation Airport, Cottonwood Mall, Albuquerque Radio Control Club - George Maloof Airpark, and Pueblo Montano Picnic Area and Trailhead to name a few.

The Westside offers a variety of hiking and biking trials many of which border or run through the extensive Petroglyph National Monument. Visitors to the Monument can explore an estimated 20,000 ancient rock carvings against the backdrop of the glittering city skyline. Many of the petroglyph images are recognizable as animals, people, brands and crosses; others are more complex. Don't miss a hike amongst the ancient rock carvings while immersing yourself in the beautiful high desert atmosphere. A unique positioning of of ancient culture and urban convenience, the Westside is a rapidly growing suburban community with abundant opportunities for shopping, dining and lodging.
